Just visible behind this beautiful copper beech is the Roundhouse, situated in Greenway Court and easily visible from Beechen Cliff School playing fields.  The elliptical building was built mid-19th century, almost certainly as a gazebo or pavilion for viewing Lyncombe Vale.  However, it has had other uses, notably in association with the Jewish faith as a bakery for unleavened bread and possibly a place of worship following closure of the Corn Street synagogue.  For this reason the building is also known as The Temple.  See a detailed history of the building at A History of the Devonshire Roundhouse
